Trigger Point Massage

Trigger point massage is sometimes confused with pressure point massage. This mode of massage has been in use for centuries but has only recently been analyzed and mapped.

Trigger point massage focuses on manipulating "trigger points" that are associated with local pain or other sensations (for example - headaches) in other parts of the body. Doctors have learned that by applying manual pressure to certain spots in the body, pain can be lowered.

Interestingly, trigger points were first mapped by Janet G. Travell who was President John F. Kennedy's personal physician along with her partner David Simons. These trigger points have been photomicrographed and measured electrically. They show a specific impact on the neuromuscular junction (NMJ) in muscle. As such this technique differs from reflexology and acupressure with a medically proven result.
